Teacher Candidates Learn 21st Century Teaching

Research shows that 21st century learners, often referred to as the “Digital Generation”, prefer learning experiences that are interactive, collaborative, and include a variety of resources.

Part of the College’s preparation of its teacher candidates involves providing them with opportunities to develop learning experiences that are appropriate for this new generation of learners. Our candidates accomplish this by designing and developing lessons which are delivered via Smart Interactive Whiteboards. These comprehensive lessons engage today’s students through active learning experiences which bring students to the Smart Board individually or in small groups to interact with the content of the lesson. The lessons utilize a variety of activity formats which enable students to sort, match, sequence, and arrange the ideas and information contained in the lesson. The lessons are further enhanced through the integration of relevant Internet sites, documents, and video and audio files.

Once developed, these lessons can be used during their student teaching experiences. The knowledge and skills our candidates acquire through the development of these lessons provides them with a viable means to integrate technology into their classrooms when they work with today’s learners.
